My Spring Break Staycation in Washington, DC

Washington DC

Many of you may not know, but my current profession is  Nanny and Personal Assistant.  I am off this week for Spring Break since the kids I nanny went to Costa Rica with their friends. Initially, I planned to go away myself, but that didn’t happen so I took advantage of my hometown, Washington, DC ! It’s so easy for Washingtonians to forget about the awesome attractions we have right in our back yard ! If you all follow my Instagram stories, you’ve seen tid bits of what I’ve been up to, but if not, follow along.

Fort Washington National Park –

I visited here over the weekend to hike and to check out the not-so-much-of-a lighthouse. If you’re interested in open space to BBQ, hiking trails, bird watching, small beach views, and basketball courts you’d like it here.  I’m sure there’s more, I just didn’t get to see everything while there. I shouldn’t leave out the massive fort that is in the park, I finished the hiking trail near the time the Fort was closing so I didn’t get to check it out, but it was cool! It was actively used for defense during the war of 1812 and training during WWII !

Anacostia River Festival –

This was the third year, but  my first time checking it out. There were plenty of exhibitions and performances to check out.  I attended the flower arrangement class at Honfleur Gallery and visited some vendor tables in the park.  Encouraging residents more in outdoor activities, they offered plenty of information on rowing,  paddling, free bike helmets and even fishing workshops.

Tidal Basin / National Mall / Paddle Boating –

I haven’t done this in forever and it was fun ! I  LOVE anything involving water, but paddle boating surrounded by the Jefferson Memorial, cherry blossoms and the MLK monument was thrilling !

National Harbor / MGM Casino –

I am spending my weekend at the National Harbor, and plan to check out the latest attraction, the MGM Casino. I also intend to do some shopping at the Tanger Outlets!

There you have it,  my week in a nutshell!  What are some of your favorite staycation things to do  in your hometown when you can’t go away?
