The amount of pressure that many of us feel to craft a beauty routine to perfection is no joke. Not only does it cost a lot of money, it’s time consuming. I know chicks who get up one to two hours early every day to put their make-up on! Personally, I rather sleep until the last minute. This doesn’t mean I don’t care about how I look, but realistically the people you care about the most see you without your make-up all the time unless you Netflix and chill with a beat face. However, the solution doesn’t necessarily include “giving up.” Here, I’m going to look at how you can stay confident while drastically decreasing the amount of time, money, and effort it takes to look cute, naturally.
Prevention Beats Treatment
First of all, let’s talk about makeup and beauty products. Most of our skincare and haircare products are designed to fight blemishes and changes that can be better solved with a focus on nutrition and natural supplements, instead. For instance, there are vitamins that contain all of the vitamins that we need to give ourselves stronger hair and acne-free skin the natural sheen that we might otherwise spend hours trying to achieve with skin creams. Of course, the occasional concealer to cover your puffy eyes or blemishes from your monthly cycle break-out is fine!
Let Your Hair Do Its Thing
I am very low-maintenance and try to stick with hairstyles that doesn’t require much upkeep like color and certain haircuts. We put a lot of effort into shaping our look when, in reality, going au natural might be just as effective. This is especially true for those that have kinky or curly hair that we have been conditioned to relax or straighten. More African-American women are starting care for their natural hair without constant manipulation. It is worth checking out transitioning to natural hair tips just to see what a difference it can make. You can cut down the amount of time you spend styling your hair every week and feel much more confident simply because you’re showing your true self rather than having to painstakingly construct an image.
Don’t Buy Into The Hype
We have made ourselves easy to market to. How much of our media from magazines, to blogs, to TV shows makes us believe we need X, Y, and Z products to look good otherwise everything will fall apart? The truth is that many of us are using unnecessary, ineffective, and counterproductive products. Take a look at some of the beauty rituals you can CUT OUT entirely from your routine, and some far more effortless alternatives to take their place.
Minimize Your Wardrobe
Whether you’re a fashionista or you just want to ensure that you’re presenting yourself well, a cluttered wardrobe does not offer “more choices” so much as it gets in the way. The paradox of choice occurs when we have too many options to reliably judge between, so we end up spending a lot more time thinking through them. Follow some tips on minimizing your wardrobe and finding those items you are more likely to rely on. It will cut the amount of time you spend choosing an outfit every day. When I go shopping, I follow this rule, If I don’t love it upon sight, I don’t need to buy it!
Try it, it’s not as difficult as you might think to maintain your appearance, confidence, and charisma while making your routine more efficient. You don’t need all the bells and whistles to look on top of the world, but if you do, that’s Okay! Not to mention, think of all the money you’re saving!
