Hey guys! I know it’s been almost two months since I last posted! I wanted to take the summer to relax and rejuvenate. I spent a lot of my summer reading poolside and at the beach! I just got back from Virginia Beach, and have put together some recommendations if you plan to attend soon. You can view all of the pictures via my Instagram highlights here! Just because Labor Day is approaching, don’t write off going to the beach! If you are on the East Coast, you know it remains warm here well into late October, sometimes mid-November!
They say Virginia is for lovers, and Virginia Beach is no exception. This beautiful destination has something romantic for every couple, whether you are foodies, adventurers, laid back, or wanting to go all out. If you and your better half are looking for a romantic destination for a weekend away, or just a night out for the two of you, Virginia Beach has something to please.
The Cavalier Hotel, built in 1927, eludes old-world charm with a modern twist. With plush fabrics, lavish décor, and lots of history, this hotel is anything but drab. Clean, beautiful, and modern finishes throughout bring together a perfect mix of contemporary and historical. The Cavalier also features a seaside Honeymoon Suite for newlyweds looking for extra romance during their stay in Virginia Beach. During your stay, don’t forget to check out Tarnished Truth Distilling Company, founded in 2013 by a pair of Virginia Beach natives. Tarnished Truth is the only distillery in the States to call a hotel it’s home. Specializing in bourbon and rye whiskey, a tour of the distillery is a perfect outing for couples with good taste in fine alcohol.
If you’re looking for a beachfront retreat, check out the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Get a front-row seat to the sparkling Atlantic Ocean, as well as concerts and festivals happening next door in Neptune’s Park. A rooftop bar and pool, offering one-of-a-kind views of Virginia Beach, transform in the night to a guest-only nightclub. Dancing the night away with the moon over the water, it doesn’t get more romantic than that.
We stayed at the Ocean Beach Club. Not only do they offer suites, but being that my boyfriend and I do not have kids, they have an adult only area! So many hotels and resorts only focus on families and not enough on couples traveling without children so this really encouraged our decision to stay here. There’s a pool, spa, and small sitting area to do work or read by the fire pit and people watch the boardwalk! Anytime we are staying somewhere for longer than three days; we opt for a suite so we can either prepare our breakfast or lunch in our room. Ocean Beach Club offers a full kitchen so you can cook as if you’re at home.
Enjoy The Outdoors
Catch one of the best sunset views Virginia Beach has to offer with Rudee Tours Sunset Cruises. Their 90-minute cruise is the perfect end to a romantic day soaking up the sun. Breathtaking views and the relaxing sound of the water allow you time to be together and enjoy the sights as the sun dips down. We enjoyed this sooo much! This is the only cruise Rudee Tours do not guarantee dolphin views, but we saw many!
If you’re looking for more adventure with your picturesque views, Virginia Beach Horseback is for you. Offering prices for couples, enjoy a private, guided horseback ride around the Pier and down the beach. You don’t have to be an equestrian pro to enjoy this romantic ride, and beginners are welcome! The best part? All of their horses are rescued from unfortunate fates and given a second chance at life. Not only will you and your partner enjoy romantic views of Virginia Beach and the Atlantic, but you’ll also be able to know that you’ve helped save the lives of one of these majestic animals.
Explore the beautiful Red Wing Park, home to multiple blooming gardens and trails, including the Miyazaki Japanese Garden. During April, be sure to enjoy some of the most beautiful blooms at the Cherry Blossom Festival.
Rent a bike and check out the boardwalk. The boardwalk is roughly 38 blocks which aren’t that long, but long enough to feel unbearable when it is 95 degrees in mid-August. Renting bikes is a great way to see the entire boardwalk without it feeling like a chore.
For The History Buffs
Virginia Beach is full of Colonial American History. The Thoroughgood House, built in 1719, is one of the oldest standing colonial homes in Virginia Beach. Before you enter this historic home, take in the beauty of the English gardens on the property. Then, step back in time and have a look in the daily lives of colonists who settled in the area 300 years ago.
You can also visit the Lynnhaven House. This pristine example of vernacular architecture was built in 1725. Beautifully and meticulously laid brick and ship’s lap floor take you back in time to the start of the 18th century. This unique home is a perfect place for couples to visit and learn about our country’s earliest days.
If you’re looking to mix a romantic stay with your love of history, the Barclay Cottage is for you. With modern amenities and a slow-paced, stress-free atmosphere, this is the perfect bed and breakfast to unwind at. The cottage is within walking distance to many attractions. Whether you want beach, history, adventure, or just quiet time for only the two of you, the Berclay Cottage will help you plan the perfect romantic getaway.
Romantic Dinner for Two
For the couples that love to eat, and let’s face it – that’s most of us, we’ve got the Salacia Prime Seafood and Steaks. We had dinner here and loved it. This oceanfront eatery is a must-try! We started with the “Jumbo” shrimp cocktail, and I had the scallops for dinner. My boyfriend had the Delmonico Ribeye with mac and cheese. Soak up unbeatable views of the Atlantic while you indulge in some of the best cuisines Virginia Beach has to offer.
For causal food, check out Pelon’s Baja Grill in Virginia Beach. Pelon’s serves up Cali- style Mexican food. The outside doesn’t look like much, but the inside give California beach vibes with lights and surf decor! I ordered the grilled fish Surfside Salad, and it was sooooo good! Worth mentioning, they also only use the freshest produce, leanest meats, and seafood straight from the oceans.
Whether you’re looking for fun adventures to do as a couple or wanting a romantic evening watching the sunset, Virginia Beach is a must-visit destination for couples of all ages. There’s something for everyone, and with an old-world charm like no other, there’s no doubt you’ll rekindle the romance during your stay.
