With Valentine’s Day falling in the middle of the week, this Wednesday, we decided that we both would plan a Valentine’s Day weekend so I planned the weekend before and my boyfriend is planning this coming weekend.
About a month ago, I saw a deal on Travelzoo’s website and the deal was less than $200 per night at Reunion Resort near the theme parks in Orlando Florida. I spent $800 round trip for our flights, hotel AND car rental and my boyfriend covered the theme park tickets and food. This was a steal compared to what I was initially planning to do in Washington, DC.
I’m sure many of you by the age of 10 had visited Universal Studios and Disney World. I never got to visit either theme parks so it has been on my bucket list since my childhood! When I saw the deal, I immediately knew this is what I wanted to plan for my (our) valentine’s weekend.
It was actually in the mid 60s in Washington, DC, but it was nice to get away and experience the sunshine state with consistent 80 degree temps! Reunion Resort has 10 pools, a waterpark and I believe five restaurants. If you are a golfer the resort is also set on a golf course. Literally, we could have thoroughly enjoyed ourself if we never left the resort.
Reunion resort is in Kissimmee Florida. It is less than 10 minutes from Disney World and 30 minutes from Universal Studios. To explore both theme parks, I would have needed a week. I did not decide on which theme park to go to until the night before flying to Florida. it was that hard.
I ended up choosing Universal Studios because I really wanted to go to Harry Potter world.
Our flight landed at 10:00 A.M. This allotted us a full weekend in Orlando. I will say that is not the best idea and I will never do that again. I thought since we weren’t going during a holiday weekend, the park wouldn’t be as packed..WRONG. Not to mention, we attempted to do all of universal studios and Island of Adventure in one day. I do not have kids so this is very possible, but it is not fun due to my next reason. Every ride had a wait time of a minimum of 40 minutes. I wanted to get on the King Kong skull island 3D ride and the wait was 90 Mins! After standing in line for 45 mins, the ride was shut down. As you can imagine, most of our time at the theme park was spent walking and standing in line, but once we got on the rides, it was worth it ! Next time, I will most certainly return during the week.
As a Harry Potter fan, I could have bypassed everything just to see Harry Potter world. It was everything I expected it to be. The replica of Hogwarts was unbelievable! The Hogwarts Express train to take passengers from Island of Adventure to Universal Studio (yup, you need two theme park tickets) to see the rest of Harry Potter was magical. Once we arrived at Universal, my boyfriend and I walked into Diagon Alley and it felt so real! It literally feel like you walked straight into the films!
All the walking and waiting in lines were so worth it.
